Do dyslexia and stuttering share a processing deficit?

چکیده

• Dyslexia and stuttering co-occur far more often than expected. Both populations show a similar degree of phonological difficulty. There might be common underlying deficit between both conditions. This study assessed the prevalence childhood in adults with dyslexia (AWD) who stutter (AWS). In addition, linguistic profiles 50 AWD, 30 AWS 84 neurotypical were measured. We found that 17 out AWD (34 %) reported during compared to 1 % population. was moderated by severity dyslexia: People mild showed lower rate (15 those severe (47 %). we observed (n = 30) fulfilled diagnostic criteria dyslexia, even though they had never been diagnosed as dyslexic. Compared adults, working memory, awareness, retrieval similarly reduced AWD. The findings supports view may share deficit.

Can a temporal processing deficit account for dyslexia?

In this comment, we argue that although Farmer and Klein (1995) have provided a valuable review relating deficits in nonreading tasks and dyslexia, their basic claim that a "temporal processing deficit" is one possible cause of dyslexia is somewhat vague. We argue that "temporal processing deficit" is never clearly defined. Furthermore, we question some of their assumptions concerning an audito...

Do children with developmental dyslexia have an implicit learning deficit?

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of specific types of tasks on the efficiency of implicit procedural learning in the presence of developmental dyslexia (DD). METHODS Sixteen children with DD (mean (SD) age 11.6 (1.4) years) and 16 matched normal reader controls (mean age 11.4 (1.9) years) were administered two tests (the Serial Reaction Time test and the Mirr...

Auditory processing and dyslexia: evidence for a specific speech processing deficit.

In order to investigate the relationship between dyslexia and central auditory processing, 19 children with spelling disability and 15 controls at grades 5 and 6 were examined using a passive oddball paradigm. Mismatch negativity (MMN) was determined for tone and speech stimuli. While there were no group differences for the tone stimuli, we found a significantly attenuated MMN in the dyslexic g...

3 An auditory temporal processing deficit in children with dyslexia ?

Developmental dyslexia is characterised by serious reading and spelling problems that are persistent and resistant to the usual didactic measures and remedial efforts (GersonsWolfensberger & Ruijssenaars, 1997). However, a lot of research has shown that problems of individuals with dyslexia extend beyond the domain of written language and affect their performance on tasks that require phonologi...

Sequential or simultaneous visual processing deficit in developmental dyslexia?

The ability of dyslexic children with or without phonological problems to process simultaneous and sequential visual information was assessed using two tasks requiring the oral report of simultaneously or sequentially displayed letter-strings. The two groups were found to exhibit a simultaneous visual processing deficit but preserved serial processing skills. However, the impairment in simultan...
